Amazingly the entire Skally line is intact in WBL itself, ending up in Hugo to the north and Maplewood to the south. Rest of the route in the eastern TC metro is without rails and now largely trails. Here, though, it is easy to imagine the glory days when not only NP but Milwaukee and C&NW trains graced these rails going to and from the Twin Ports. |

Designed in the French Norman style by Peabody & Sterns, it was completed in 1892 at a cost of $615,000. Passenger service ended in '69. It was purchased from the BN ca. '70. Since '73 it has been home to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, the St. Louis Co. Historic Society, and several arts organizations. Regular passenger service, in the form of Amtrak, returned from '74 or '77 until 7 Apr. '85. Passenger service again returned in '90 when the North Shore Scenic Railroad began offering excursions. |
