Chris Martin General The LXVR is a shortline created in June 1996 to operate former SOU/NS trackage from Columbus, MS to Belk, AL. It was created, operated and owned by CAGY Industries, the parent company of the Columbus & Greenville Railway in northeast Mississippi. They also owned another railroad famous for excurion operations, the CCKY. The 2880 and her sister, the 2885, came to the CAGY in Feb/96 shortly after being retired from the NS. Both of these units actually are former engines of the original Norfolk Southern. In 1974 they were merged with the Southern Railway. Upon that, the SOU had their short hoods rebuilt to high hoods and had the control stand moved to the firemans side of the cab and set them up for long hood forward operations. CAGY Industries was bought out by the Genessee & Wyoming on June 1st, 2008. After which many changes would take place. A handful of people lost their jobs and operations changed to fit the G&W's "attitude." The 2880, 2885 and the CAGY 702 left Columbus in early 20 6/3/2010 2:58:23 AM
