At the end of the 1940s, the Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses began a program to renew its fleet, by ordering American diesel rolling stock, including twelve locotractors from General Electric as class 1100. Each unit had two engines, totaling a power of 380 hp, and could reach a maximum speed of 50 kph. Each diesel loco weighed around 50 tons. |
