Centipedes. Here is an original photo that I took at the Erecting & Machine Shop storage yard in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 August 1963. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5818, a BH-50 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as a BP-60 passenger engine rated at 3,000 horsepower in January of 1948, later regeared and reclassified as a 2,250 horsepower BH-50 for freight and helper duty, and retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. Note that its builder's badge has been removed in preparation for scrapping. |
