The "Late" Shore Limited pulls into Erie's Union Station
I was told by a worker at the station that there was a power outage somewhere the night before, causing all switches and signals to be put on battery power. Sometime in the early morning the batteries died, in his words "locking up" everything in the area. He said that there was 15 trains stopped in a 50 mile stretch, many without any crews on board, causing problems for the Lake Shore Limited to arrive on time. It left Cleveland on time, but had lost almost 2 hours by the time it got to Erie. It was supposed to be in at 7:22 am and did not arrive until 9:10 am. The double stack train to the right was stopped as was a mixed freight to its right.
