Blue light special
This old SAL signal still has the funny blue light on it. Note the missing Approach aspect as this line features sporadic ABS between sidings

Eugene Cain General That is a Doll Arm Signal...the Blue Light you mentioned. This route is FULL CTC as installed by the SAL in the 1940s and 50s. It is still in service from Savannah to Raliegh. The Blue light was neat..almost Purple. I have some night shots down near Savannah of some that were still working a few years ago. 7/11/2012 2:07:17 PM
Chris Martone General The doll arm, with or without the blue light, meant that another track came between the signal and the track that the signal governed....most times the siding or a stub track. 10/23/2012 10:28:40 PM
Carter Buchanan General Eugene Cain. Do you have any of those photos up of the doll arm signals in Savannah? I have only seen two in my life in service back in the 80's. One on the SAL near Waldo Florida and several on the Clinchfield signals, other than that, all were replaced with the non illuminated types by CSX. 2/27/2019 3:37:52 AM
