| CMStP&P L-2 class Mikado 8255 sits by the road's Coburg roundhouse in 1936 in this shot by Charles Winters. The L-2 was a freight standard for the Milwaukee Road; the road acquiring 380 from Alco, Baldwin and its own shops from 1912 through 1923. 8255 came out of Baldwin in 1920 and would later be renumbered as 555. The L-2 class was the largest Milwaukee steam power on their KC line for years; as of 1944 they were rated for 3250 tons eastbound to the first crew change point, at Laredo and only 2250 westbound. |
