Southern Pacific (Texas & New Orleans) P-5 class 4-6-2 609 was parked at the railroad’s ALGIERS SHOPS, across the Mississippi River from New Orleans, along with the 607. Neither of them would ever run again. The 609 had been built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works (37984) in June 1912 as the 909 and was renumbered in 1923. It was sold for scrap at Houston on its 40th birthday eight months after this photo, on 3 June 1952. |
