This strong St Louis-San Francisco 4-6-4 Hudson #1063 is showing some road grime but still looks solid. Initially Baldwin built this loco as a 4-6-2 Pacific in 1917 but the SLSF West Springfield Shops rebuilt it into the more powerful 4-6-4 Hudson seen here. It served as a Hudson until dieselization killed it. This loco met up with the scrapper's torch in January of 1952. Hudson specs - serial #45465, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. Arthur B. Johnson photo |
