This fine looking 4-6-4 Hudson steam locomotive started out as a Baldwin 4-6-2 Pacific built in 1917 before the SLSF West Springfield Shops transformed it. Starting in 1937-40, the Shops rebuilt the Pacifics into more powerful 4-6-4 Hudsons and even added a wide "semi-streamlined" side valence. By this time in its life, the valance had been removed. It was finally sent to the scrapper's torch in December of 1951. Hudson specs - serial #45512, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. Arthur B. Johnson photo |
