David Mead	General	I am delighted that you have chosen to show us a wagon and especially a nice smartly painted one - Im intrigued about the message Not to Hammer on the Car - what would the contents normally be? Matthew Chapman	General	David, what are "bogies"? Also, I don't know much about hopper cars, but I'm guessing they don't want workers to hammer on the cars because a) it damages them too much over time or b) perhaps there is a lining of some kind, like a phenolic or epoxy coating, on the inside of the steel, which could be damaged or flake off if the sheet metal isn't smooth.	4/17/2007 10:30:18 PM

David Richerby	General	Just in case anyone still cares, 16 years later... Cargo would be grain. In winter, any moisture in the cargo can freeze, at which point it won't unload through the bottom gates. The low-tech solution is to whack the side of the car until it comes loose, which damages the car. Yes, the trucks/bogies are exposed but they don't need to be protected from the weather, so that's fine.	4/28/2022 5:09:00 PM
