Here is page one of a two-page camera study entitled "Along The Atchison, Topeka, & Ohio." It was published originally in the August 1956 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 38. Top Photo Caption: "Coming or going, the 5014 makes a commanding sight at Bellevue, O." Bottom Photo, Revised Caption: "In Columbus, Atchison's [Baldwin-built] 5018 towers over F-7 cab unit and an [unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad] I-1 [(2-10-0) 'Decapod']." The "cab unit" is PRR engine #9820, an EF-15A built by GM-EMD in May of 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. |

Extra Board. Here is an image that was taken near Columbus, Ohio, following a head-on collision during 1959. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9820, along with three other units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #9820 is an EF-15A built in May of 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower; it was later repaired and survived into the Penn Central era as number "1520." The photographer's name, the exact date, and the location are not recorded. |
